Water extraction Plano TX
Removing liquid water is hundreds of times faster than evaporating it. A good extraction can pull out the vast majority of the water in a flooded room in a few hours, which is why it's the single biggest factor in how long drying takes, how much material can be saved and what the job ends up costing.
Our water extraction services in Plano use truck-mounted units with far more suction than rental shop vacs or carpet cleaners, plus portable extractors for upstairs rooms, condos and tight spaces. For carpet, we use weighted extraction tools that press water out of the carpet and pad together, so carpet can often be saved instead of thrown away.
Extraction isn't only about carpet. We remove standing water from tile, vinyl, laminate and hardwood, pump out flooded garages, and pull water from the toe-kick space under cabinets where it hides. Then we check with moisture meters to find water that has already moved into walls and subfloor.
Once the water is out, the job moves to structural drying, where dehumidifiers and air movers remove the moisture that's left inside materials. If your situation is an active emergency at night or on a weekend, see emergency water damage restoration.
Surfaces we extract
Each material takes a different approach. Here's how we handle the most common ones.
Weighted extraction pulls water from carpet and pad at once. Clean-water carpet can often be saved; soaked pad is usually replaced.
Surface water is extracted fast, then drying mats pull moisture from the boards to limit cupping.
Water runs into grout lines and under tile edges. We extract and check the slab underneath.
Water gets trapped under floating floors. We extract the surface and check the underlayment.
Pumps and squeegees clear standing water from garages, then we dry the shared wall with the house.
Toe kicks are removed so we can extract and dry the hidden space beneath kitchen and bath cabinets.
Our process
Why speed matters
In the first few hours, water mostly sits on the surface and can be extracted. After that, it wicks up drywall, swells particleboard cabinets and soaks the slab. Every hour of delay turns extraction work into replacement work.
Clean water left for 48 hours is reclassified as Category 2 gray water because of bacterial growth. That can mean the difference between drying carpet in place and throwing it out.
Local water removal
Most Plano homes are single-story or two-story slab houses with carpeted bedrooms and tile or wood in the main living areas. That mix means water moves fast from hard floors into carpet, and from carpet into the slab. We extract the whole wet area, not just the room where the leak started.
Two-story homes add another challenge: water from an upstairs bathroom or laundry room runs down through the ceiling and walls into the rooms below. We extract on both floors and open the ceiling where needed so trapped water doesn't stay hidden.
For offices, retail and multi-family buildings, we bring enough extraction capacity to clear large areas quickly. See commercial water damage restoration. Homeowners can read more on our residential water restoration page.
Questions
Can I use a shop vac instead?
A shop vac can help with a small puddle on tile. It can't pull water out of carpet pad or deep standing water, and using household vacuums on wet floors is an electrical hazard.
Can my wet carpet be saved?
Often, if the water was clean and extraction starts within a day or two. The pad usually needs replacing. Carpet touched by sewage or flood water can't be saved.
How long does water extraction take?
Most residential extractions take a few hours. Drying afterward usually takes three to five days.
Is water extraction covered by insurance?
When the water came from a sudden, covered event like a burst pipe or water heater failure, extraction and drying are normally part of the claim.
Do you extract water from hardwood floors?
Yes. We remove surface water right away and use specialized drying mats to pull moisture from the wood, which gives hardwood the best chance of being saved.
Do you offer water extraction services at night?
Yes. Our line is answered 24/7 and crews are dispatched nights, weekends and holidays. Call 972-433-6160.
